Lomax + Wood for Stunning Victorian Conversion – Streatham, London
- Traditional Wooden Box Sash Windows
Bespoke Made to Measure Wooden Entrance Doors
External Wooden French Doors Made to Measure
Made-to-order timber sash windows and doors from the Kensington & Chelsea range by Lomax + Wood have been specified in the successful conversion of a Victorian property close to Streatham Common, London SW16. The development now includes a substantial end-of-terrace new-build extension that offers six luxurious private duplexes and apartments, together with the original double-fronted property. All have views over the Grade II Listed Streatham Common Waterworks.
This architect-designed boutique development by a fast-growing City of London-based developer has created a new build element to complement the Victorian property offering a beautiful mix of old and new. Internally many of the features have been carefully arranged to enhance the original features of the building with high ceilings on the ground floors, exposed brick walls and solid oak wooden floors, creating a sleek and modern look.
Non-bar, Victorian-style box sash windows operated with traditional cords and weights have been designed by Lomax + Wood and are featured throughout the development, lending an authentic period aesthetic to the properties. The spacious rooms are enhanced with a combination of large double glazed sash and coordinating flush casement windows, which offer the highest thermal and acoustic performance levels.
Lomax + Wood are the first manufacturers to achieve a U-value of 1.1 W/m²K for the timber sliding sash window, a measurement that exceeds the current requirements of Part L Building Regulations. This was conducted in accordance with the British Woodworking Federation and British Board of Agrément (BBA) software tool for timber windows and doors and complied with BS EN ISO 10077-1:2006. This ultra-low U-value will help to ensure warmth and comfort for property owners, reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. Beautiful bi-folding doors and French doorsets from the Kensington & Chelsea range have also been specified.
“There were no planning obstacles with this project, and the renovation has dramatically improved the area for residents and homeowners alike,” says Chris Wood, managing director, Lomax + Wood. “These exquisite windows replace a mish-mash of single glazed sliding sash and casement windows in timber and steel which had been installed at various stages over the life of the building. Nothing matched, and there was no uniformity. The redevelopment has benefitted from a sympathetic restoration which will be a pleasure to live in and a major enhancement to the streetscape.”
Products by Lomax + Wood are factory-finished and include only traditional flush joints, rather than Swedish joints, which are more prevalent in mass-produced modern windows and are detrimental to authentic aesthetics. Products are internally glazed for enhanced security and visual impact.
Ideal for both new build and heritage refurbishment projects, Lomax + Wood’s Kensington & Chelsea products are manufactured from sustainably sourced, clear grade timber engineered for maximum strength and stability. Products are delivered direct to site and factory-finished with three coats of high quality, durable micro-porous paint and stain, which is available in white and a choice of fashionable heritage colours. An optional dual-colour facility is also available.
“We want our customers to love the homes they have invested in and to enjoy living in them every bit as much as we have enjoyed creating them,” comments the developer.
“It helps enormously when we work closely with manufacturers like Lomax + Wood who consistently deliver excellent products and service.”
