Lomax + Wood, the Essex-based designer and supplier of high performance timber windows and doors in the Kensington & Chelsea range, announces FSC® – Forest Stewardship Council® – Chain of Custody certification FSC® C126169 in compliance with BM TRADA. This certification ensures that these made-to-order timber windows and doors originate from responsibly sourced forests. It is independently certified by BM TRADA who are ASI accredited to ensure that the material is traced through every stage of the process from forest to end-user.
“By implementing and maintaining a certified Chain of Custody system,” says Chris Wood, managing director, Lomax + Wood Limited, “we can provide assurances to suppliers and clients that our products are sourced and produced in compliance with a globally recognised ecological, social and economic standard. For a product to qualify, all of our suppliers, through harvesting, processing, manufacturing, delivery and installation, must also be certified.
“A clear distinction must be made between suppliers who have FSC® – Forest Stewardship Council® – Chain of Custody certification and those who purport to supply FSC timber, but it is not the same thing. These suppliers are not certified with Chain of Custody and therefore not audited to ensure the chain is credible.”
The Lomax + Wood high performance timber sash windows, casements and doors, which are available throughout the UK, are manufactured from premium quality, clear grade timber which is engineered to achieve strength and durability. The range includes authentically-styled period windows, including the popular sash window ideal for conservation areas, with coordinating casements, external doors, beautiful French doorsets and bi-folding doors. They are highly thermally efficient and meet and exceed the requirements of Part L Building Regulations.
Lomax + Wood also offer a contemporary range including tilt turn, alu-clad casements, bi-folding, sliding and entrance doors as well as triple glazed products that meet Passivhaus standards.
Products are factory-finished and include only traditional flush joints, rather than Swedish joints, which are more prevalent in mass produced modern windows and are considered detrimental to elegant, period aesthetics. For enhanced security and visual impact Kensington & Chelsea windows and doors are internally glazed and are ideal for both new build and heritage refurbishment projects. They are delivered to site with three coats of spray-applied micro-porous paint which is available in white and a choice of fashionable heritage colours. An optional dual-colour facility is also available.
“As a responsible manufacturer we are committed to sourcing our raw material sustainably,” continues Wood. “We have worked hard to achieve this certification which is considered to be an environmental gold standard. Undertaking this work in partnership with BM TRADA is also another symbol of quality and assurance for the brand.”
Acoustic data for Lomax + Wood windows is also now available as tested by BM TRADA. With the acoustic upgrade option the Kensington & Chelsea traditionally designed timber flush casement achieves a market-leading 42db and the box sash 38db. Lomax + Wood can also offer customers a bespoke test service to help achieve exceptional acoustic targets for made-to-order timber windows and doors.
